Spring is the best time to power rake your Kamloops lawn — typically late April to mid-May, once the grass starts actively growing but before it gets too long. Power raking removes the layer of thatch (dead grass and debris) that builds up over winter, allowing water, nutrients, and air to reach the roots more effectively.
Power raking too early can stress your lawn. Wait until you’ve mowed at least once and the grass is clearly growing before you rake.
In the Okanagan, our dry summers mean lawns need every advantage going into the season. A good power rake in spring sets your lawn up for healthy growth all the way through to fall. Not sure if your lawn needs it? A thick, spongy feel underfoot is a good sign thatch has built up and it’s time to call Sun Up.
